Ryan is Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Next Play Capital. Having been a professional athlete, successful entrepreneur, and disciplined investor over the past two decades, Ryan’s background put him in a position to be able to start Next Play Capital, which sits at the intersection of sports and technology, while leveraging those relationships into an investment platform.
Beginning with a distinguished 7-year NFL career that included a Super Bowl ring with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Ryan went on to learn investing. First in real estate as a Principal at Arenda Capital, before moving on to debt and tech with Provident Investment Advisors. His entrepreneurial interests led him to the start-up world, co-founding StraightCast Media, a mobile app designed to empower athletes to create their own HD content, which was sold to FOX Sports in 2014, freeing him to pursue the idea of starting Next Play Capital.
Leveraging the strategic community Next Play Capital serves, Ryan has helped lead co-investments for Next Play Capital into Hippo, Brandless, ByteDance (TikTok), Flexport, Hims, Impossible Foods, Peloton, (IPO), Rubrik, and Walker & Co. among others.
Ryan is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles with a B.A. in Economics and Political Science. He is a member of the Aspen Institute Henry Crown Fellow Program.
